The incident took place on Sept. 27, while Goemaat's boyfriend, who has not been identified, was out running errands. According to court documents,Goemaat became angry with Drue after he and Goemaat's own 2-year-old son got into a fight about a toy.
She allegedly kicked Drue, knocking him to the ground and then kicked him again before shutting him in a playpen, where the toddler was later found unresponsive by his father.
An autopsy later showed that Drue died of abdominal trauma and internal bleeding, the documents state. He had also sustained a fractured clavicle.
What's more, Drue was taken to Seattle Children's Hospital just a week before his death, where he was treated for "bruises and scratches that did not appear to be normal for a toddler," according to a police report obtained by KIRO 7. Hospital staff reported the injuries to Child Protective Services, court records show.
Friends told police that Goemaat – who struggled with drug addiction, according to court documents – often became angry with Drue, screaming at him to stop crying.
Goemaat initially denied knowing what happened to Drue, but allegedly admitted to kicking him after police arrested her on Oct. 1. Her boyfriend told police that she'd tried to commit suicide the night before her arrest, but that he stopped her.
The King's County Prosecuting Attorney's Office officially charged Goemaat with second-degree murder this week. She is being held on $1 million bail. It is not known whether she has entered a plea.
