It is funny, how we all tend to freak out when faced with situations where we’ve not experienced before. it is a very common reaction. When you walk into a dark room where you've not been before, you become afraid and pick your steps little by little because your mind doesn't know what lies ahead. In the same vein, when you walk into a room—a very dark room—where you've been before, you know how the furniture is arranged, you know what lies where. So, even though there is no light in the room, you can still find your way around it.
Therefore, it will suffice to say ignorance breeds fear and knowledge is light. Consider the story of two people, Mr A and Mr B. Mr A has knowledge about what is in the room, so he can find his way around even though there is no light. Mr B has no knowledge of what lies where in the room so when he walks into the room, his first reaction is fear. He reduces his pace and becomes afraid to move forward—fear impedes progress.
The knowledge that Mr A has is enough light for him to navigate, but where there is an ‘unknown’, fear thrives. (why are most students afraid of algebra?) If you're afraid of anything in your life, it is because you lack knowledge in that area of life. If you would conquer fear in any aspect of your life, seek knowledge about it.
Are you starting a business? How many biographies of successful and unsuccessful businesses have
you read? Have you taken a business class? Have you read a book on business? Have you researched on the kind of business you want to go into?
If you're about to get married, how many books on marriage have you read? Have you spoken to a marriage counselor? Have you asked the relevant questions? If you're pregnant or hoping to bear children how many books on parenting have you read? How many successful parents have you spoken to?
Folks often say "you learn on the job." True, but there is a knowledge required for taking the job in the first place. They say assumption is the lowest level of knowledge but I beg to differ. I believe assumption is not a level of knowledge. Assumption is to knowledge what darkness is to light. Assumption is to knowledge what a vacuum is to matter. One displaces the other. Darkness in itself is not real. It is an absence of light. In the same vein assumption is not real it is an absence of knowledge.
Knowledge is definite, knowledge is certain. Knowledge is concrete. Knowledge is sure. Knowledge is the proverbial rock on which the wise man built his house. Knowledge is light!!!
